PERSONAL STATEMENT, JAN LEWIS

MEMBERSHIP NUMBER 20164438

POSITION APPLYING FOR – CHAIRMAN AUTO-TRAIL OWNERS’ CLUB

My name is Jan Lewis, I have been a member of ATOC since 2016 when we purchased our 3rd Auto-Trail, an Arapaho.

I am applying for the position of Chairman.

I live with my husband, Gerry, and our two dogs, Kaos and Smokey, in North Devon.

After successful and rewarding Police careers we moved to North Devon and ran a successful business until 2012. I then became a professional fundraiser for a mobility charity. I followed this with a move to North Devon Theatres, taking up a post within the fundraising, marketing, and promotion department. I retired five years ago.

In 2006 I joined Rotary International. As a Rotarian, I have held the posts of Assistant District Governor, Club President, Treasurer, and chair of Trustees. I have a ‘Paul Harris Fellowship’. I am a former school governor.

I joined the ATOC Board in 2022, have been involved in many changes and the introduction of social media to the Club. More recently I have held the positions of Vice Chair, Data Protection Officer and Publicity Officer.

In June 2026 the Board of Directors asked me to take up the post of Acting Chairman following the sudden resignation of Christine Vinall.

Although I have not actively sought this position I have found the past 3 months rewarding. There are huge positive changes occurring within ATOC, and this is a very exciting time to be part of the Board.

I believe that it is important for the Club to have a period of stability and for that reason I am seeking your support in my application to become Chairman.

If elected my aim is to ensure that the Club moves forward with the times and capitalises on the recent successes, embraces change where appropriate and make sure that if you own an Auto-Trail, ATOC is the ‘go to’ Club.

I became a member of ATOC in the summer of 2023 and,, in the first couple of years, managed to attend a few rallies, including our introduction into what running a rally was all about by assisting at the Glastonbury rally in 2024. Since then, we have been Stewards at rallies in both 2025 and 2026, bringing new locations into the ATOC calendar aimed at giving a wider presence in the northern areas. We have also been assistants at several other rallies and always happy to lend a helping hand whenever needed, including spending time testing the ATOC Booking App prior to going live. I then started to think if there was anything else I could do to help keep the momentum of the club moving forward, bearing in mind that everyone involved in running the club does so on a voluntary basis and devotes a lot of time to ensure that ATOC remains the successful, friendly and flexible club that it is today. Do I have spare time that I could use to support the club? Yes, I think I do, so would welcome the opportunity to join the Board if the members are willing to vote me in.

On a more personal note, whilst I was still gainfully employed, I worked mainly within the food industry in their IT/Systems, working in roles in business analysis and project management. This involved communication with people on the shop floor right through to management and Directors, so I view myself as a good communicator at all levels and have the ability to analyse short term requirements but not lose sight of the longer-term objectives that need to be delivered. Coming from this type of background I feel my business skills would blend well with the existing Board of Directors who each bring their own individual skills to ensure the club moves forward in the right direction.

The club rules state a specific number of board members must stand down each year. To achieve the number this year required volunteers. I am, therefore, standing down at the 2026 AGM and seeking to be re-elected as Treasurer if you so desire.
